Old Warsaw Cookbook (trade paperback reissue)

by "Rysia," Hippocrene Books, 1990 reissue of the hard-to-find 1958 hardback. A welcome reissue -- this is considered even today one of the best books in English on traditional Polish cooking. Trade paperback, 304 pages using original plates. Charming line drawings throughout by Irena Lorentowicz (1908-1985), a well-known Polish artist.

From the back cover description: "Drawing on her Polish childhood, Rysia presents over 850 mouthwatering recipes, which can conveniently be prepared in a modern American kitchen. Dishes are arranged by category, with a special section on holiday food and customs." Also neat chapters on how to make liqueurs and beer. We like the recipe for Bikos, a mixed meats and sausage dish resembling cassoulet but with sauerkraut instead of beans. There are also chapters on International favorites. Condition: As New.
