French Cooking in Ten Minutes

by Edouard de Pomiane, Northpoint Press, first edition of this version, 1994. Trade paperback, 142 pages. This is the paperback version of the 1977 Farrar, Straus hardback, with translation by Philip and Mary Hyman. When we first saw the title, we almost put it back...until we realized that it was originally published in France in 1930, before the advent of refrigeration for many French housewives. Then, when we saw the gushing blurbs by M.F. K. Fisher and Elizabeth David, we were hooked. Original 1930 illustrations throughout. Pomiane, as it turns out, was a very popular culinary figure in France, with 22 books to his credit. The prose is quaint, pithy and timeless. Recommended. VG+.
