BEST of the BEST from Louisiana Cookbook

edited by Gwen McKee and Barbara Moseley, Quail Ridge Press, 2003 printing of the l984 publication. Subtitled “Selected Recipes from Louisiana’s Favorite cookbooks.” Three decades ago, it was the editors brilliant idea to bring together samplings from all the best local cookbooks, modest to fancy, from states and inaugurate a “Best of the Best” series to make sure all these regional favorites don’t fade away. Their offerings proved enormously popular. This book was their first volume in the series, and it has sold more than 120,000 copies.

They struck it rich when they got around to Louisiana, from Baton Rouge and Tipodeaux to Gretna and New Orleans. There are Cajun and Creole dishes. They’ve presented hundreds of recipes, drawn from 50 cookbooks, including such favorites as Justin Wilson and Tony Chachere’s Cajun cookbooks, and popular Junior League and other community groups, “Voila! LaFayette Centennial Cookbook,”“River Road Recipes,” “The Shadows-On-The-Teche Cookbook,” “Recipes and Reminiscences of New Orleans” and “Brennan’s New Orleans Cookbook.”
