Both are considered some of the best food writing ever, even now, the product of a learned knowledgable woman, passionate about food and life. The names and places she visited to find these recipes are either gone or 60 years changed, but the regional, traditional recipes remain the same. There are no step-by-step photos (nor any photos) in this book; just remarkable prose, place descriptions and doled-out recipes, and charming b&w chapter headpiece drawings by John Minton.
