Gourmet -- Scarce Feb. '50 w/ James Beard as associate editor


by the editors of Gourmet, Feb. 1950 issue. February issue is scarce; it contains an early appearance of James Beard as Associate Editor. He’d gotten the job in 1949, but he was off the editorial masthead by the March, 1950 issue. The reason? Obviously, not his knowledge of food here and abroad. Turns out Beard, while a great cook, teacher and conversationalist, couldn't put together a story on paper very well, and used a collaborator for the rest of his career for his books and articles. Beard contributes two articles here: Specialties de la Maison and Vintage Tour, 1949, Part II. VG+.
