A Cook's Tour of the Eastern Shore of Maryland (1949)

by the Junior Auxiliary of Memorial Hospital, Easton, MD. A real find-- a 1949 third printing of the 1948 first publication of one of the classic post- WW II Maryland cookbooks! It has the original full title and cover art.

We believe this early one was the only edition published published by Farrar, Straus & Co. Later editions were published by Tidewater Publications. Slick light blue paper covers, dark blue hand titling, blue comb binding, 348 pages plus recipe index.

This copy has the FULL title on the front cover, including the phrase "of Maryland" which was dropped in later, local printings. It also has the ORIGINAL cover art of a sketch of a Chesapeake Bay work boat, sailing AWAY from the artist. Inside cover page has the old adaption of the 1670 map of the Chesapeake Bay. Handwritten recipes with the contributors' names beneath.

Increasingly difficult to find in this early edition. Cover wear at binding and extremities, semi-erased price on inside cover. Still, VG.
