Operation Vittles - Favorite Receipts from The Navy (1955)

by the Hawaiian Auxiliary of the Navy Relief Society, Mrs. William G. Tomlinson, ed., circa 1955. Glossy paper covers, comb binding. Nice design with Navy blue, white and yellow pages, 174 pages.

Editor Tomlinson was the wife of a top Navy admiral who had won the Navy Cross in WWII. Recipes came from many Pacific Navy officer wives, but Mrs. Tomlinson stars. Some pretty cool stuff, considering it was the Eisenhower administration. Just from the Game section: Quail with sour cherries; Guinea Hen Aux Chablis. Also has remarkable Hawaiian and Oriental sections. We wish search engines could tell us more about her, but alas. The book underscores our contention that State Department and Service officer wives had their culinary stuff together early on.

Has penciled inscription with 1955 date on inside of front cover. Slight wear and 3/4" closed top edge tear. Strong VG.
