Betty Crocker's Picture Cook Book (1950)

by "Betty Crocker," MacMillan, first edition, fifth printing of 1950 publication. Wonderfully preserved condition! Hardback with spatter-proof red cover, no DJ. Black and white step-by-step photos throughout --revolutionary for the time -- and gorgeously garish '50s "full color" presentation photos throughout.

This is it! Great Grandma's cooking go-to, and handed down through the generations, often in tatters. Truman and then Eisenhower were in the White House, bread cost 14¢ a loaf, black and white TV was new and the average salary was $3,800. The snappy photos, mod illustrations and its breezy tone evidently resonated with mid-century modern moms and set this apart from more austere predecessors. Very hard to find in this condition. Slight wear at extremities, but still VG+.
