Anne Willan's Look & Cook: Splendid Soups

By Anne Willan, Dorling Kindersley, first printing, 1994. Hardback with DJ. We're not the only ones to like this series for their straight-ahead directions and their every-step-of-the-way preparation color photos. We often refer to them to see how La Willan would do a dish, and because they make us more confident about tackling one that’s kind-of-involved. You might not know about Senate Black Bean Soup, which she says is a staple on the menu of the cafeteria. It looks good, but it we suspect it might be heresy! (She spent a few years in D.C. at the old Washington Star in the '70s). We'll look into it further, and call for a special investigative subcommittee hearing if necessary. The books in this series make great gifts for serious newbies. Small tear in the front cover DJ. Otherwise, VG+VG+.
