The Splendid Table

by Lynne Rosetto Kasper, Morrow, 1992, first edition. Although it won both the James Beard and two Julia Child cookbook awards, sadly, it is out of print. Heavy, oversized hardback with DJ, 529 pages with index. Subtitled "Recipes from Emilia-Romagna, the Heartland of Northern Italian Food," this book secured the reputation of the magazine writer, cooking school owner and NPR food host.

The intro says it was the first American book to present the food of this northern region. "It will take you from Parma, Bologna, Modena, Ravenna, and Ferrara to tiny villages in the foothills of the Apennines, from Renaissance banquet halls to the simplest of farmhouses, offering history, folklore, and substantive cooking tips along the way." Recommended. Condition: Nice -- no remainder marks, VG+/VG+.
